South Korean Delegation Visits the NSCA Certification Commission

Lincoln, Nebraska — June 25, 2008. The NSCA Certification Commission hosted a delegation of visitors from South Korea in April 2008. The visitors, comprised of a professor and three of his top students, came to the Commission to discuss future NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) exam administrations, plans to translate the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) exam into Korean and evaluate areas for further collaboration between the Commission and South Korea.

The delegation was led by Dr. Wanki Lim, CSCS. Dr. Lim is the department chair and a professor at Hoseo University in Asan City, South Korea. Dr. Lim was accompanied by Hansol Kang, NSCA-CPT, a personal trainer at Hotel Shilla Vantt Tower Palace, Duksung Cho and supervisor of Kwacheon Sportsclub and Kwangyeon Kim, the general secretary of the Korean Personal Trainers Association at Chung Cheong College.

Dr. Lim and the NSCA Certification Commission worked together on the first translation of the Essentials of Personal Training textbook into Korean, which was published through Dehan Media in Seoul, South Korean. In October 2007, Dr. Lim also led a team of experts in personal training for the translation of the NSCA-CPT exam. The first exam was given in Seoul on January 20, 2008, to 72 candidates. Dr. Lim and the Commission are continuing to plan on collaborating on the translation into Korean of Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, Third Edition textbook and the CSCS exam.

"I am very proud to be a part of the first Korean delegation to visit the NSCA Certification Commission. This trip was an opportunity to get recognition of what our organizations have achieved and gain more cooperation and support for the path I have chosen, which is to promote competent personal training professionals in South Korea," Dr. Lim said.

The delegation combined the exam development discussions and meetings with cultural activities highlighting the sights and sounds of Lincoln, Nebraska. While in Lincoln, the delegation was treated to lunch at Valentino's, dinner at The Lodge at Wilderness Ridge and attended the University of Nebraska's annual Red/White Spring Game. After leaving Lincoln, the delegation travelled to Chicago, Illinois, for additional sightseeing before returning to Seoul, South Korea.

The NSCA Certification Commission continues to expand on its role as the worldwide leader in the strength training and conditioning and personal training certification industry by providing more international exam locations. The NSCA Certification Commission has certified individuals from more than 45 nations worldwide. In 2008, the NSCA Certification Commission will administer exams in Australia, England, Japan, Puerto Rico and South Africa.

The CSCS and the NSCA-CPT credentials are recognized worldwide among health and fitness employers, professors and industry leaders as the most respected and preferred fitness-related credentials. By expanding internationally, the NSCA Certification Commission strives to provide opportunities to individuals worldwide to demonstrate key characteristics of competency requirements for strength and conditioning specialists and personal trainers. By earning the difficult-to-obtain CSCS or NSCA-CPT credentials, individuals gain instant credibility and an edge in the profession over fitness professionals who have earned a less challenging or respected certification.
