NSCA Certification Commission Achieves Certification Milestone
Lincoln, Nebraska - September 12, 2005. In September of this year, the NSCA Certification Commission reached a milestone of 30,000 certificate holders who have earned the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) and the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) certification. As the strength and conditioning and fitness professions have grown, so has the demand for identifying fitness professionals who are truly qualified to develop and implement safe and effective training programs. The NSCA Certification Commission has responded to this need by developing the most rigorous and well respected credentials in the industry.
The CSCS, established in 1985, recognizes fitness professionals who have the ability to apply scientific knowledge when designing programs and training athletes for the express purpose of improving athletic performance. The CSCS exam also assesses a professional's ability to conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention.
The NSCA-CPT certification, established in 1994, recognizes personal trainers who are able to demonstrate an ability to assess, motivate, educate and train clients regarding their health and fitness needs. The hallmark of their skills is their ability to design safe and effective exercise programs for a wide range of clients, provide guidance to help clients achieve their personal health/fitness goals and the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
The CSCS and NSCA-CPT are the only fitness-related credentials to be accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1993. The CSCS and NSCA-CPT certifications are recognized and respected worldwide as evidenced by having individuals certified in 49 countries. Each year, the NSCA Certification Commission offers both examinations at more than 250 sites throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada and other countries including Australia, England, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa and Spain.

The NSCA Certification Commission, which is the certifying agency for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, offers two credentials for fitness professionals.
