The CEU Provider Program is successful because the NSCA Certification Commission encourages its certified individuals to stay abreast of evolving knowledge and skills in the profession and, in doing so, to promote the ongoing competency of those certified. The NSCA Certification Commission bases its CEUs on the number of contact hours (or actual clock hours) undertaken to complete an activity or event (breaks, lunch breaks, social times, registration, etc. are not included in contact hours) and the content that is covered during that time. Typically one contact hour equals 0.1 CEU, thus 10 contact hours equals 1.0 CEU.

The NSCA Certification Commission, the certifying agency for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, offers two credentials for fitness professionals. The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) certifications are considered the Credentials of Distinction in the strength training and conditioning and personal training professions. The NSCA Certification Commission is the only fitness-related organization to offer credentials nationally accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1993.
