NSCA Certification Commission Announces Recertification Numbers

Lincoln, Nebraska - August 11, 2006. The NSCA Certification Commission is excited to announce that 78.1% of its certified individuals completed the recertification requirements during the 2003-2005 recertification period. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certified individuals finished the recertification period with 81.2% achieving recertification, and 69.1% of the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) certified individuals recertified.

"These strong recertification rates not only show that strength training and conditioning and personal training professionals want to remain certified, but they recognize that their credential improves job security and opportunities for the future," said Roger Earle, associate executive director of the NSCA Certification Commission.

Continuing education is an important part of the NSCA Certification Commission's role in promoting the ongoing competency of its certified individuals. Since 1997, the NSCA Certification Commission has increased its recertification rate with each three-year reporting period. The National Certification Commission, an independent association that provides information on the development and improvement of certification programs, recently reported, "...nearly 80% of certification programs have renewal requirements (usually related to continuing education and remaining a practitioner). Of those categories with requirements, approximately 75% of existing designates decide to renew certification ..." Thus, the NSCA Certification Commission's recertification rate is above the national average. This validates the NSCA Certification Commission's continuous efforts to meet the demand for strength training and conditioning and fitness professionals who are truly qualified to develop and implement safe and effective training programs.
