NSCA Certification Commission Receives ANSI Accreditation

Lincoln, Nebraska - January 22, 2007. The NSCA Certification Commission and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) are excited to announce the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) and the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) credentials have received accreditation by the ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 Personnel Certification Accreditation Program. The NSCA Certification Commission is the first fitness-related certification organization in the world to offer personnel certifications that are accredited by ANSI.

"Receiving ANSI accreditation shows the Commission's commitment to deliver internationally recognized credentials to the fitness industry and public," said Roger Earle, MA, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, associate executive director of the NSCA Certification Commission.

The ANSI accreditation standard ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 is an American National Standard (ANS) and an International Standard for personnel certification accreditation that addresses the general requirements for bodies operating certification programs for persons. The importance of these designations facilitates recognition from federal and state governments and governments outside of the United States. Its requirements set the standard to ensure the organization is operating its personnel certification program in a consistent, comparable and reliable manner. ANSI is the official representative of the United States at the delegate assembly of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and participates in the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), which creates Multilateral Recognition Agreements (MLAs) with other accrediting bodies in other countries.

The NSCA Certification Commission continues to define the industry by establishing itself as a worldwide leader in strength training and conditioning and personal training certification by obtaining the nationally and internationally recognized and respected ANSI personnel certification accreditation. The NSCA Certification Commission was also the first fitness-related certification organization to receive accreditation through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for both the CSCS and NSCA-CPT certification programs - and to be registered to ISO 9001:2000.

Established in Lincoln in 1985, the NSCA Certification Commission offers two nationally accredited certifications. The CSCS certification is a highly specialized program that identifies individuals who have demonstrated proficiency in the areas of proper strength and conditioning practices of athletes. The NSCA-CPT certification was developed for personal trainers who work with both active and sedentary clients in one-on-one situations in a variety of settings including schools, health and fitness clubs and clients' homes.
