Ms. Jaynie Bjornaraa and Dr. Donald Chu Elected to the NSCA Certification Commission's Executive Council
Lincoln, Nebraska ? November 21, 2007. The NSCA Certification Commission announced today that Ms. Jaynie Bjornaraa, CSCS,*D, and Dr. Donald Chu, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, have been elected to the Commission?s Executive Council. Ms. Bjornaraa and Dr. Chu received the highest number of votes from the 35,000 certified individuals who hold the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist? (CSCS?) and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer? (NSCA-CPT?) credentials.
Ms. Bjornaraa is an assistant professor on the Doctor of Physical Therapy Faculty at the College of St. Catherine in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her board certification from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as a "Sports Clinical Specialist" and presently serves on the Item Writing and Standards Setting Committees for the APTA Sports Certification exam. Ms. Bjornaraa is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers? Association.
Ms. Bjornaraa has served actively in the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a member of the Board of Directors and as an item writer for the NSCA-CPT exam. This is Ms. Bjornaraa?s second stint on the NSCA Certification Commission?s Executive Council. Ms. Bjornaraa is in her first year at the College of St. Catherine and teaches course content in musculoskeletal examination and intervention, anatomy, musculoskeletal systems, clinical orthopedics and sports medicine.
Dr. Chu is the Director of the Athercare Fitness and Rehabilitation Clinic in Castro Valley, California. He serves as adjunct faculty to the Ohlone College Physical Therapist Assistant program in Fremont, California. He serves on a Task Force for Continuing Competency for the California State Board of Physical Therapy and is a recent past President and member of the Physical Therapy Board.
For the NSCA Certification Commission, Dr. Chu has been a member of the CSCS Exam Development Committee since 1985 and has previously served on the Executive Council. He has been a member of the Executive Council Nomination Committee and served on the 2007 CSCS Job Analysis Committee. Dr. Chu has been an NSCA President and a member of the NSCA Past Presidents Committee.
As the governing body of the Commission, the Executive Council establishes the policies and manages the business affairs of the Commission. These newly elected Executive Council members will begin their four-year terms in February 2008.

The NSCA Certification Commission, the certifying agency for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, offers two credentials for fitness professionals. The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) certifications are considered the Credentials of Distinction in the strength training and conditioning and personal training professions. The NSCA Certification Commission is the only fitness-related organization to offer credentials nationally accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1993.
