NSCA Certification Commission Offering Discount to Fly Solo Program Participants

Lincoln, Nebraska — April 7, 2008. The NSCA Certification Commission is offering high school and college sport coaches who are NSCA Fly Solo participants a $25 discount off the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS® ) and/or NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) exam registration fees. This discount provides these coaches with an opportunity to further enhance their career by earning the Credentials of Distinction.

Effective February 2008, the discount will provide the opportunity for these coaches to earn the most respected and preferred certification in strength and conditioning – CSCS – and/or in the fitness industry – NSCA-CPT. Through this agreement, the NSCA Certification Commission Executive Council affirmed their commitment to the training of high school and sport coaches so that they can operate a strength training facility and develop safe and effective workouts for their student athletes. Upon earning their certification, these professionals would join more than 37,000 certified individuals worldwide who have achieved the prestigious honor of earning these Credentials of Distinction.

CSCS certified individuals possess the strength training and conditioning knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs. The strength training and conditioning program a CSCS certified individual designs will account for the biomechanical and physiological differences among athletes as well as the demands of their specific sport.

The NSCA-CPT certification was developed for professionals who work one-on-one with their clients in a variety of environments such as YMCAs, schools, health/fitness clubs and clients' homes. The exam thoroughly tests the knowledge and skills that are necessary to be successful in training active and sedentary individuals including the elderly and obese.

The NSCA’s Fly Solo program is designed to give its participants a better understanding of strength and conditioning principles to include in their programs. Attendance at a Fly Solo Camp prepares coaches to design, implement and monitor safe and effective strength and conditioning programs to improve physical performance of athletes through:

  • Development of a year-round strength and conditioning program.

  • Planning of appropriate and sport specific exercises, exercise sequence, sets, repetitions and recovery periods.

  • Setting of load, frequency and intensity.

  • Evaluating the appropriate correlation of fitness components to reach and maintain optimal sport specific performance levels.

  • Designing appropriate strength and conditioning programs, reducing the risk and severity of potential injury.

Fly Solo participants can receive the discount by obtaining the unique discount code from the NSCA Certification Commission. Once the participants have obtained the code, they can register for the exam of their choice at www.nsca-cc.org.
